Dear Members of Staff, Students and all stakeholders of the University
I am extremely honoured to have the opportunity to continue to serve as the Vice-Chancellor and President of this University in its 50th Anniversary year. The University of the South Pacific holds a unique position as a regional and international university providing quality education to the people of the Pacific in 12 member countries spread over 33 million km as well as to many others beyond the membership.
Over the past 50 years we have had to deal with our distinctive challenges by being resourceful, innovative and often at the forefront of flexible learning techniques. Our staff have conducted leading edge research in many areas and our students have excelled in everything from science and management through to arts & culture.
The University has produced 43,315 1 graduates and awarded 58,793 2 qualifications as of mid-September 2017. Some of our Alumni have led or are leading the governments of the Pacific and heading major corporations, while others have championed climate change and the significance of our Pacific society. The University is poised to remain a key player in the future development of the region. Building on our successes of the past to help shape the future of the Pacific is something in which we take great pride.
I encourage you to become more engaged and share in the journey of the University through this website. Whether you are already part of the pages of this incredible journey of achievements or are discovering USP for the first time, I am certain you will find people of interest, ground breaking research and innovative solutions to difficult challenges highlighted here. Please take the opportunity to be involved in some of the many activities that will be conducted during our Anniversary year across all our campuses throughout the Pacific.
In USP’s 50th year I also encourage our Alumni and friends of the University to actively contribute to the future development of the University.
