EVENT - “We are the Ocean” Heritage & Arts Festival

DATE: 18th – 25th July

In commemoration of the first Pacific Arts Festival held in May of 1972 at USP, a one week Heritage and Arts Festival celebrated the cultural and natural heritage through the arts. Organised by the University’s Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies (OCACPS), the week-long festival brought together living culture, heritage and the arts in a fun and interactive way that engaged with the wider community. The Festival paid tribute to our Oceanian ancestors whose stories sustain our identity and connectedness to the land, sky and sea; it also paid tribute to the scholarly ancestors including the founding director of OCACPS, the late Professor Epeli Hau’ofa. The festival which started with an opening procession by artists from the USP Laucala Campus main gate to Oceania Centre Pavilion also featured art booths, performances by students, food and arts stalls, Art Workshops and Demonstrations, artists’ talks, arts exhibition on “Living Objects”, evening cultural performances, fashion shows and music events, poetry and spoken word activities, and mural showing.
